Was Daria the first animated feminist icon? I don't know but she was definitely the coolest. In 1997, MTV did some really interesting things when they started adding scripted animation to their regular music video programming. Daria was groundbreaking for its time and captured the emo feminist book lover perfectly. So much so, that she remains a feminist icon to this day.
